NICE Evidence Update on Acute Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding

NICE have published an Evidence Update on acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

NICE Evidence Updates help to reduce the need for individuals, managers and commissioners to search for new evidence and keep health and social care professionals up-to-date with new research. While Evidence Updates do not replace current accredited guidance and do not provide formal recommendations, they do highlight new evidence that health and social care professionals may wish to consider alongside current guidance.

The new Evidence Update focuses on a summary of selected new evidence relevant to NICE clinical guideline 141 ‘Acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding: management’.

NICE Eyes on Evidence Issue 63 July 2014

>>> Click here to read the latest issue of  Eyes on Evidence

This month's issue contains evidence updates on:

Antipyretic therapy for children with fever
A Cochrane review finds that giving paracetamol and ibuprofen together or one agent after the other is more effective at eliminating fever in febrile children than either therapy alone.

School environments and student health
A systematic review of qualitative research finds that the need for pupils to 'act tough', unsupervised areas, poor relationships with teachers, and wanting to 'escape' the premises at lunchtime are associated with risky health behaviours in school pupils.

Physiotherapy in Parkinson's disease
A Cochrane review suggests that physiotherapy may improve gait, functional mobility, balance, and clinician-rated disability outcomes in people with Parkinson's disease.

Cognitive behavioural therapy for health anxiety
A randomised controlled trial indicates that cognitive behavioural therapy is effective at reducing excessive health anxiety in patients in hospital, and total healthcare costs including the cost of the therapy are roughly the same as with standard care.

Evidence Updates
NICE has recently published Evidence Updates on:
Sickle cell acute painful episode
Service user experience in adult mental health
